“The maximum daily working hours do not reflect reality.”

Andreas Pellens, chairman of the Working Group of Horticultural Employers’ Associations (German: Arbeitsgemeinschaft der gärtnerischen Arbeitgeberverbände), speaks on the topic of maximum working hours. The platform www.fruitnet.com has published an article on this subject on july 15th 2025.

“The maximum daily working hours do not reflect the realities of horticulture,‘ Andreas Pellens emphasises in the article. ’During the hot summer months, harvesting and maintenance work often has to be carried out early in the morning or late in the evening – for the benefit of plants, products and employees. The maximum weekly working hours would allow for more flexibility while maintaining the same level of health protection. The coalition agreement must be implemented consistently in this regard.”
